Whilst there are lots of things to do in Essex this weekend, I can’t spend Sunday afternoon any other way but glued to my TV cheering on Andy Murray at Wimbledon. Even though I clearly have some bias towards Andy, as a Scot, there is something so memorising about watching tennis and the skill that the players bring to the game.
Andy himself has certainly taken a large amount of criticism over the years due to his style but I love his honest and simple approach. One of my favourite Andy Murray quotes is:
“In tennis, it is not the opponent you fear, it is the failure itself, knowing how near you were but just out of reach.”
I can certainly resonate with those thoughts and ever through blogging, every time I hit the publish button I suddenly think “but what if no-one finds it useful” or even worse “no-one reads it”. Sometimes you just need to put your fears aside and keep going. What’s the worst that can happen?
Now back to the weekend, I’ll have the Pimms ready on Sunday, just remember to bring the strawberries. … you can pick them up on route back from these great options for your family day out in Essex this weekend!

Dunmow Flitch Trails – Great Dunmow
I’m a romantic at heart and love the story behind the Dunmow Flitch Trails. The Dunmow Flitch Trials exist to award a flitch of bacon to married couples from anywhere in the world, if they can satisfy the Judge and Jury of 6 maidens and 6 bachelors that in ‘twelvemonth and a day’, they have ‘not wisht themselves unmarried again’. They only take place every four years, so well worth a visit.
You’ll also find the We are Handmade Contemporary Summer Craft and Design Fair in Great Dunmow as part of the day – www.wearehandmade.co.uk
